Idea for Gap Year...

Americorps is an umbrella of service programs.  One of them, NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is focused on 18 - 25 year olds.  This program is TERRIFIC (okay, I am biased--I did it the  year after I graduated college).  You get paid a wee living stipend, but your housing and meals are taken care of.  You travel around the country with a group of 10-14 peers, working on various service projects related to the environment, public safety, elder care, education, etc. You meet people from all walks of life and you learn about aspects of the country you wouldn't get a chance to if you were just visiting.

If you have questions, I am happy to explain the program more.

If you are interested, here is the website:
http://www.americorps.gov/about/programs/nccc.asp

Summer Internship Opportunties--deadlines are approaching!!!

This one is paid, working in one of Boston's National Parks (tree and shrub work):  DEADLINE passed
http://www.environetwork.org/benblog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=544

This one is paid, horticultural-related and on Martha's Vineyard:

Another National Park Service internship (paid), but for longer duration:
http://www.environetwork.org/benblog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=543

This one is paid, but you must be resident of Boston:

Binder Check Assignment

The binder is due the day after break--Monday, April 26th

- the binder should be organized by TOPIC (i.e. soil resources, water pollution, forest management, etc)...ultimately, the choice of topics is your choice.  If you decide to go with chapters, use the names of the chapters (not the #s). If you use the units, make sure you use the description of the unit (not unit #s)

- each topic should have ALL WORK, including labs, class notes, quizzes, etc that pertain to that topic-- do not separate class notes from labs from quizzes

- each section should be labeled clearly

- you can use a binder, a big (plastic or board) file folder...as long as there are no loose papers and everything is contained you are okay.  Do NOT hand me a set of folders that are loose...again, everything should be contained and easy to thumb through.
